Comic TV Series to watch

With Marvel hitting it big on the box office with movies such as The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and more, it is not a surprise that we are seeing more of beloved comic books being adapted into their own TV series. Here are some comic TV series to fuel your indulgence.

The Flash

The Flash has been running for 3 seasons already and there is no sign of them slowing down the show. The show follows the story of Barry Allen who through an accident being stroke by lightning gained super speed. With his traumatic past and newfound powers, he works with his friends at Starlabs to protect Central City from threats within the city and from other universes. Part of the CW channel, the show often collaborates with other CW shows such as Arrow, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow.

Another long-running CW show of 5 seasons, Arrow has gained many loyal fans who follow their complex but the intriguing storyline. Oliver Queen a billionaire playboy is found after 5 years after a violent shipwreck on a remote island in the Pacific. From the experience, he has a change of heart and wants to make amends for his past. He then creates the vigilante Arrow who fights to restore Starling City to its former glory. This take on Robin Hood will be sure to get you hooked.

Finally some girl power on TV! The series follows Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman, after she lands on Earth 24 years after Superman. After trying to hide her powers, she is forced to reveal them in an accident to save her adoptive sister. She thus starts her own journey of heroism as National City’s protector. The female empowerment is significant in this show from having the main leads and the villains being women who can kick butt and are entirely able to handle themselves.

Even Netflix is hopping on the comic adaptation train! Matt Murdock after being blinded by a chemical spill as a child has gained superhuman senses, allowing him to see the world in a different way. He is a lawyer by day and a vigilante by night protecting Hell’s Kitchen. The show has received outstanding reviews and a large fan base for their adored character.

This new CW show is the talk of the town. Our beloved Archie comic characters are not just living in the happy and carefree Riverdale. In this new take, the Archie characters are set in the present day, exploring the surrealism of the small town life and the underlying darkness. It is a mix of Gossip Girl, Twin Peaks and Pretty Little Liars, filled with teen drama and mystery.

This is for the mystery and horror movie fans out there. Preacher follows Jesse Custer, a preacher in the small town Annville in Texas, who is possessed by the supernatural creature Genesis.
