Mid-Autumn Magic: Events in Singapore, September 2019

September is always a time of magic in Singapore, as our annual Mid-Autumn festival comes around once more. Over the years, the Festival has become a beautiful tradition in Singapore, and many families commemorate this event by spending time with their loved ones, hanging paper lanterns, eating delicious mooncakes, and retelling the popular Chinese legend of Chang-Er. Of course, with such a huge celebration just around the corner, there are also plenty of exciting events and activities all around Singapore designed to help you get into the festive mood. From 30 August to 15 September 2019, Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay will be home to several phenomenal programmes and activities. From traditional mooncakes and lantern walks to massive lantern sets and cultural performances, this celebration promises to instil you with fun-filled evenings instilled with our heritage. This year, there will even be a 120 m wide display of floating lanterns – the widest in history, in fact! Add free admission on top of all these exhilarating attractions – what more could you ask for in this time of year?

2. Sweet Reunion with Sanrio Characters @Jurong Point

For those of you with little ones in tow, Jurong Point is the place to be this Mid-Autumn! On 13 September 2019, Hello Kitty will be making an appearance on Jurong’s Magical Moonlit Lantern Walkabout. Just spend a minimum of 50 SGD in two same-day receipts at the mall to participate, and receive a goody-bag with attractive shopping vouchers, and of course, mooncakes! If this isn’t your cup of tea, there will also be an Instagram-worthy photo opportunity at Jurong Point’s SanrioTown Lantern Tunnel from 16 August to 15 September 2019

Why not add a little culture into your Mid-Autumn celebration? From 13 to 15 September 2019, this year’s Moonfest – A Mid-Autumn Celebration will be an extravaganza that celebrates the charm and heritage of traditional Chinese theatre. With classic Chinese Opera performances, a musical demonstration of the art of Shadow Puppetry, and a riveting show from the popular radio group Yu Jian Huang Chong, the Moonfest will both entertain and elicit a sense of nostalgia for all connoisseurs of the Chinese arts.

5. Mid-Autumn Yeah! @Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre

The 2019 Mid-Autumn Yeah! at SCCC is a programme designed for families to celebrate this special time. Fun arts and crafts await your little ones on the 13and 14 September 2019, while Mid-Autumn themed Escape Rooms are sure to enthral your older children. On top of these fun activities for young ones, there are also virtual reality experiences, and fun educational experiences through planetarium shows and a genuine telescope! Other attractions are also available for getting in touch with Chinese roots, such as a tea-tasting and brewing session, and of course – mooncake tasting too!

6. Mid-Autumn Festival @ Chinatown

We cannot discuss Singapore’s Mid-Autumn Festival without mentioning the headliner celebration in Chinatown, 31 August to 29 September 2019! Chinatown has been transformed into a beautiful land of festivities, both to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, and commemorate Singapore’s Bicentennial Year. Filled with history and culture, lights and lanterns, this month-long celebration of the Chinese culture and Singaporean heritage is not one to be missed!
