All of us want the best for our animal friends, but having a pet comes with many challenges. Pets need comfort, company, space to play, easy roaming, a place to do their business, and some tend to destroy things. But if you want to renovate your home, you can actually design your home to take your pets into account. If this is you, fret not. For we are here to walk you through a few ways you can make your home a more pet-friendly place.

Use suitable flooring
When you choose floors in a pet-friendly home, make sure you consider your pet’s personality first. Is your pet housebroken? Can they keep from chewing up soft objects? Can their claws run over surfaces without scratching them? If your answer to any of these questions is no, then the carpet is an immediate no-no. For the most pet-proof type of flooring, try to get those that are resistant to water and scratches and don’t stain easily. Another good idea is to get a type of floor that blends in with your pet’s fur, especially if it sheds. Flooring with protective finishes is a good option.

Get pet-friendly furniture
When furnishing a pet’s home, look for furniture that will be the hardest to destroy. Go for fabrics that are resistant to scratches and stains. Also, avoid materials that are made of a loose weave because pet fur can get stuck in there, and it will be hard to get out. The best options are inexpensive with a high thread count. It’s even better if the outer skin of your furniture can be completely removed for a thorough cleaning.

Create a play corner
Don’t forget to think about your pet’s space when you plan out your renovation because every pet needs its space to play. Actively look for spaces you will not be using that you can turn into a special area for your pet. Your pet’s play corner can be as simple as putting a scratching post or dog bed into a nook under the stairs. Or as elaborate as creating an entire catwalk on your wall for your curious cats to explore. If you own a smaller pet like a guinea pig or rabbit, a small playpen can also be a great idea to let you play with your pet in a larger and more open area.

Create a designated storage space for your pet’s things
No matter what pet you have, there will always be a small pile of pet supplies like toys and cleaning equipment that are all dedicated to it. All your pet supplies need to be easily accessible and you don’t want them getting lost among your other things. That’s why it’s always very important to plan designated storage space for your pet when you’re planning your renovation. Some pet owners opt to use hollow furniture or a decorative box to store them. But you can also design your cupboard to incorporate an area for your pet supplies. Or leave your pet supplies in your pet’s favorite hangout. Whichever you like best.

Create feeding stations in your home

Feeding stations for your pet are a great way to save space and create a designated area for your pet to eat its meals. Many stores online sell pet food organizers like this one. Feeding stations keep all the pet food in a nice, convenient place near the food bowls. Refilling your pet’s food bowl becomes easy when the food supply is kept so close to the bowls. Having the bowls set in a fixed place also helps to keep the mess contained if your pet is a messy eater

Plan a bath area for your pet

Let’s not forget to keep our pets clean. Where do you plan to wash your pet? Some usual go-to areas are the shower, the sink, and the outside. But none are ideal. In the shower, you’re probably going to get wet too. And some pets are just too big for the sin.

Washing your pet outside does solve some problems, but there might be things around the area that you don’t want to get wet. That’s why as part of your renovation, it can be a good idea to install a wash station for your pets’ bath time. All you need is a semi-enclosed, raised platform with a mobile water supply, as a large bidet with a showerhead. Above are some pet-friendly ideas that you can incorporate into your home!
